Stefan Phillips was born and raised in California. He developed an appreciation for the outdoors at an early age through his father, who was an avid outdoorsman, mountaineer and amateur photographer. Stefan moved to Portland Oregon in the mid 1970's where his interest in photography and involvement in the music industry began. Stefan's career as a professional audio engineer began to take off in 1979 and his interest in photography was sidelined for a while. For the next 17 years Stefan lived in Portland, OR,  Little Rock , AR and Nashville, TN. spending nearly 300 days per year either on tour, getting ready for the next tour or in the recording studio. He has toured around the world and has worked with acts ranging from classical to ballet to theatrical productions to acoustic to jazz to pop to heavy metal. Stefan chose to stop touring in 1996 to be closer to his son. The family moved to Maui later that year. After many years working as the full time director of audio, front of house engineer and part time production coordinator at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, Stefan felt he needed to find a new direction. It was at that point that Stefan decided to rekindle his interest in photography as a profession. In early 2007, after 10 years in Hawaii, Stefan and his wife Rebecca decided it was time for a change and relocated to the mainland. They now reside nearly 9,000 feet up in the Colorado Rockies.
